Chemung County


As of the 2000 census, the population of Chemung County was 91,070. The county name is derived from the name of a Delaware Indian village (meaning "big horn"). The county seat is Elmira. Chemung County is popular for being  "Mark Twain Country" because of the many years that the famous author lived and wrote in Elmira.
